Cataracts & Retinal Detachment

Have been disappeared from the space for a while until D got quite worried and called from abroad to check on me.  My husband was diagnosed with cataracts few weeks ago - doc suspects that it could be due to long term usage of steroid in treating his eczema all this while.  He was supposed to undergo a surgery for the cataracts early next month but on Sunday he started to see ‘flies’ on his left eye.

Upon checking, it’s confirmed to be retinal detachment on his left eye and mild one on his right eye.  He’s requested to be admitted immediately as retinal detachment is an emergency and it can caused a patient to become blind overnight.  He’s admitted to Tong Shin on Monday evening and the operation was scheduled at 8pm on the same day.  The operation took about 3 hours - mainly for his left eye as his right eye was treated with laser earlier on.

This operation was performed under local anesthesia.  A gas bubble was injected into the eye after which laser or freezing treatment was applied to the retinal hole.  After he’s discharged, he has to position his head so that the bubble rests against the retinal hole.  And he has to keep his head tilted for a week to keep the gas bubble in contact with the retinal hole.  Because of this operation, his cataract surgery has to be postponed to 3-6 months later.

Hope the bad times will over soon.  This incidence has further strengthened my believe that nothing else is more important than your health.  I don’t pray for anything like wealth anymore, I just want the people I loved to be healthy and happy.  XXX
